GIRLS RULE, BOYS DROOL

Humor me and read this story (if you wanna call it that) I have swirling around in my head as I'm struggling to start this blogpost...

"It was a clear dark night, a clear white moon..." (Nah, I'm just kidding (and if you didn't catch that, don't worry about it.) Really though, here's the story)

So I find myself at a cafe. I'm talking coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, baked goods, light chatter, open mic nights; I mean the whole nine yards. Now I'm no poet, nor do I enjoy speaking in front of crowds of people that much, and yet there I was walking up on stage.

Usually, my nerves would've finished eating away at my body by now, but I felt numb. I must've really been feeling myself, and what I had to say must've been so profound that my brain couldn't even process what I was going to say once I got up there.

The lights dimmed in the audience, and the lights on stage brightened just a little. I tapped the microphone twice.

"Is this thing on?", I ask in all seriousness. There was a light laughter in the crowd.

Okay, ya girl must be a comedian because I wasn't playing and my question wasn't even remotely funny. I took a deep breath, "Hi guys. Um.. I'm Imani, and I just wanted to say... GIRLS RULE, BOYS DROOL."

I dropped the mic, smiled, threw up the hardest peace sign known to mankind, walked off stage and out of the cafe.

As I was writing, I didn't know how the story would connect to today's topic at all. But, I decided to open with it because I really do think girls rule! No, I will not be elaborating on the "boys drool" part of the story, I just needed to use the complete saying, you know? This post is simply a list of reasons why being a girl is something to love and be proud of.

1. OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FATHER: We are daughters of the God who created the heavens and the earth! Daughters of the God who loved us so much, I mean more than we could ever love ourselves, that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins; just so that our relationship could be restored to Him (God), through Him (Jesus). Do you ever sit and marvel at that? God sees us as pure, precious, beautiful, smart, powerful, worthy of protection and loved; not because of our own ability to be those things, but because He created us that way. God is eager to direct our paths, and all we have to do is follow! I mean, how awesome is our Father?

2. THE WAY WE COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER: Okay, Y'all. I've noticed that women naturally have the spirit of "gas" (support). But do you understand the level in which we go to when it comes to gassing other women up? I mean we come up with the most outrageous phrases, and if it weren't coming from another woman it'd probably be kinda weird. It doesn't even have to be a major accomplishment, a girl can be tying her shoe and another girl would be like, "YAS GIRL, YOU BETTA!!!" Like, that's real sisterhood right there. Moral of the story: It's a lot more fun to lift up and compliment than it is to hate and degrade.

3. "0-100 REAL QUICK": (Personally, I never really reached that full 100 in my life yet, but I'm glowing, y'all I'm glowing.) Women have the ability to literally go from sweats, messy hair, and gym shoes, to dressed to the nines, hair (and edges, Lord knows we loves some edges) laid and slayed, and high heels. It's truly an art.

4. MUTUAL SIDE-EYE: This one might just be my favorite because it's the one I've mastered since a young age. I don't even know how to explain where women learn this skill from, but it's really a life changing experience participating in a mutual side-eye moment with a woman you don't even know.

5. HAIR VERSATILITY: How you feeling today sis? You want inches? Braids? A twist-out? A fade? A pony? What color you want? Blonde? Jet Black? Purple? All of the above? I'm a firm believer in changing up hairstyles, often. You know, show the world that our hair doesn't define us, but rather we define our hair.

6. BEAUTY & THE BROWS: I always get a little emotional every time I see a girl with poppin' brows. Some are naturally gifted with killer brows, other's have to work a little harder. Either way, I'm proud. GO GIRLS! (*I'll be there soon enough.)

7. WE BEAT THE ODDS: We range from business owners, to writers, to artists, to teachers, to speakers, to politicians, to designers, to stylists, to architects, to engineers, to literally any and everything we can think of. We find a way to perform, achieve, and look good while doing so!

If you haven't noticed, I have faith in the women of our generation and the next. I believe that girls have a unique purpose on this earth and it's imperative that we all fulfill our individual assignments. There's something special about being created beautiful, valuable, set apart, and purposeful by God, and to be used by Him to help others in the world believe and receive that about themselves as well.

It's a lot easier to believe what the world says about you: You're weak. You're over-emotional. You're for everybody. You're ghetto. You need to lose some weight. You're mean. You're ugly. You'll never be good enough. No one loves you. But it takes a different kind of girl to know who she really is in God, and what she is capable of with Him by her side. If you ask me, which you didn't, I love being a girl. Do you?

Peace +GLOW Always,

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised."

-Proverbs 31:30 NLT
